Semi-Permanent Makeup

Semi-Permanent Makeup Tattoo

In Vancouver, semi-permanent makeup is often confused with cosmetic tattoos (also called permanent makeup). They are NOT the same. Cosmetic tattooing is an older technique that may use ink for body tattoos. They are permanent and will not disappear. They tend to look unnatural and often discolour over time to a bluish gray.

Semi-permanent makeup, on the other hand, is the newest innovation for beauty and is an upgrade from cosmetic tattoos. The biggest difference is that semi-permanent make-up is NOT permanent; the shade only gets lighter and lighter through the exfoliation of the epidermis.

Blink offers two techniques: Microblading and Airbrushing. Microblading, also known as Microstroking, is an advanced brow embroidery technique whereby a superfine row of needles is used to create thin, hair like marks on the skin, which lasts about 1-2 years, depending on skin metabolism, type, and the environment. However, if you’re someone who prefers a fuller brow but still wants that soft texture, you may want to consider the Airbrushing technique. This mimics the appearance of conventional brow makeup whether it be a brow pencil or brow shadow. With Airbrushing, the color is implanted deeper into the skin-known as the dermal layer, so it lasts 2-4 years before a touch-up.

Semi-permanent make-up is a great solution for women looking to save time applying makeup by being an easy base to work on or providing a naturally beautiful, fresh-faced look that they can wear every day!

Semi-Permanent Makeup Aftercare

1. The colour is up to 50% darker right after the service. It will fade after 4 to 7 days and the true colour will not come through until up to 4 weeks after the initial treatment. During the healing process, the colour may seem to have disappeared as it is obscured by the healing skin. Under no circumstances should you have further permanent cosmetic work done during the 4-week period.
2. For the first day of the treatment, try to gently blot the area using a warm damp cotton pad.
3. It is highly likely that you will experience some skin sensitivity, flaking, itching, redness and swelling for about 1-2 days. You might consider an over the counter pain reliever to help you get through.
4. Try not to get the treated area wet for the first week. Shower with your back to the water to avoid water, shampoo and conditioner from getting into the pigmented areas.
5. DO NOT apply any anti-acne products (e.g. Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Proactiv, etc.) or lightening creams (skin bleaching creams) such as hydroquinone to the treated area until fully healed.
6. DO NOT expose the treated area to extreme heat or extreme cold until fully healed. This includes sunbathing, tanning beds, jacuzzis, saunas, etc.
7. DO NOT thread, wax, or use hair removal products on the treated area until fully healed.

8. DO NOT pick, scratch or rub the area or the colour will heal unevenly or cause scarring and infection.
9. Once healed, always apply sunscreen to the treated area as exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment.
10. Average healing time will vary from person to person and will depend on several physiological factors that include age, skin type, circulation, hormonal cycles, and how easily and/or severely you swell and bruise. Generally, as with any type of skin trauma, older looser skin tends to take a bit longer than younger skin to heal. Other factors that may affect healing time include diet, excessive physical activity, exposure to direct sunlight, and any medications you might be taking.
