Eyelash Extension Removal at Home?

March 23, 2017 - 12:51 pm

So you've got beautiful lash extensions applied, but they're not quite right for your day job. Or maybe they've mostly grown out, but there are still a few stragglers left behind. Or you're experiencing painful clumping or intertwining of the lash extensions. Or maybe they aren't what you expected. Whatever the reason is, you you just want to remove your eyelash extensions.

Before you do anything, please try to avoid removing your lash extensions prematurely (if you can help it). And don't try to do it yourself at home! This is because eyelash extensions are bonded to your natural lashes using surgical-grade adhesive; that means it's made to withstand water, soap, and sweat. They're incredibly durable and will not come off easily.

If you got your lash extensions at Blink Beauty Parlour, our technicians will remove them free of charge!

But if returning all the way to Coquitlam isn't an option, you can also LOOSEN your eyelash extensions at home. You won't need any abrasive chemicals either. Of course, this process is only recommended for near-mature eyelash extensions that are nearing or at the end of their life cycle. For recently-applied lashes, always go to a licensed professional to get them removed!

Otherwise, here's a step-by-step guide on loosening those extensions:

    1. If you're wearing any makeup, use a gentle makeup remover.
    2. Thoroughly wash your face as usual, making sure not to scrub the eye area.
    3. Fill a large bowl with steaming hot water.
    4. Carefully place your face directly over the bowl, and drape a large towel over your head.
    5. Remain in this position for approximately 10 to 15 minutes as this will help soften the glue and encourage release of the extensions.
    6. Dip a cotton ball, cosmetic pad, or makeup sponge in olive oil and gently swipe your upper and lower lash lines, making sure not to get any of the oil in your eyes. This will give the extensions "slip" and help them slide right off. You may need to repeat this step to dissolve the glue completely. You should see the false lashes come off on the sponge or cotton ball, or notice them falling onto your counter top.
    7. Once the extensions slide off, gently rinse your face with warm water to remove any excess oil. Apply a moisturizer to nurture the skin and bring lashes back to their original state.
